God the Car Manufacturer

All throughout the bible we see examples of similes and metaphors to describe and highlight certain attributes of God.

I thought, how could I explain God to someone in more familiar terms. The thought came to me that God is like a car factory. For the purpose of this illustration I’ll use a Toyota car factory. I just know that Toyota has an excellent factory system.

Let’s cover these 4 points to see similarities between a car manufacturer, for instance Toyota, and God.

1. Toyota brands its cars
2. Toyota knows best and gives recommendations for its cars
3. Toyota issues recalls and intervenes if something seriously wrong happens to its car
4. Toyota allows you to bring in your car for servicing and alignment.

1. Toyota brands its cars
If you look inside the hood or on most parts of a vehicle you will see that it says Toyota or OEM part number that points to Toyota. You would never have to guess if this car was made by Toyota or not. Their building style and design style stands out and lets everyone know. Have you ever had a friend who can tell you the type of car it was just by seeing a glimpse even if it’s going fast? This friend is able to recognize the traits of a Toyota.

Likewise, we are all God’s Children. We were made in his image and likeness. A true Christian should be recognizable from the non Christian. Our deepest thoughts and motivations for our actions should reflect our maker and manufacturer, whether someone looks at our deepest motives or just gets a glimpse.

“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” – John 1:12

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

2. Toyota knows best and gives recommendation for its cars
Toyota offers a service manual. This service manual tells you how to operate the car and how to properly take care of it. We don’t have to rely on wives tales, or superstition to know how frequently to change the oil, transmission fluid, or the proper way to shift. The creator of the automobile wants you to get efficient use therefore they give you instructions.

Likewise, God gives us instructions on how we should live our life. God wants us to have a meaningful life filled with purpose. We need regular servicing, we should seek him daily.

“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. Jeremiah” 29:13

“The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: for gaining wisdom and instruction; for understanding words of insight; for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young” Proverbs 1:1-4

3. Toyota issues recalls and intervenes if something is seriously wrong with its car
If the brakes or steering wheel, airbags or some other important part of the car is unsafe then Toyota will offer a recall where they ask everyone who is driving an affected car to bring it in to have the problem fixed.

Likewise, God intervenes in our lives. The only problem is… sometimes we do not know. We often do not realize when God has saved us from an accident. We sometimes curse the other driver for almost hitting us and for cutting us off. How often do we thank God for preventing the accident? Unlike Toyota God doesn’t send letters or a news broadcast that he prevented you from a serious accident or serious item, but he still intervenes nevertheless. We can all testify of miracles that we have seen happen in our lives.

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. Psalm 121: 1, 2

4. Toyota allows you to bring in your car for serving and alignment
Over the course of the life of your car you will have to get it serviced. The car was not meant to be self sufficient and needs outsider intervention to make it run efficiently.

Likewise, we are not self sufficient. Contrary to popular belief we are not self sufficient and we are not all-powerful beings. We need input from God, family and friends in our lives. We are social beings.

Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. Proverbs 15:22

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. Proverbs 3:6-7

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Similar to how Toyota wants to give you the best driving experience possible and the most longevity with your vehicle God wants the same for your life. He wants to give you the best life experience possible and length of days and quality of life. Seek the Lord.

Proverbs 3:13 – 17

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
