I went to high school/middle school students homes and helped them with math. I found out that the more I care, and the more effort I put in the more I was stressed if the student didn't perform. It took me a while to realize that responsibility falls on them as well as on me. A lot of times there are factors that really stop a child from learning like lack of sleep or house hold problems that you sorta have to be aware of.
