A few weeks ago my interest was captured by methods of haggling and different tactics to save money on bills.
After doing some google searching I found out how to save on my T-mobile bill.
T-mobile offers corporate discounts to members, based on their connection to certain organizations.
It can be based on school, job, or some 'club' or group you belong to.
For example:
CUNY schools in New York have corporate discounts for students and faculty.
Princeton, Rutgers, and many more.
UPS Employees also get a discount...
It's a whole long list and if eligible, you get a percentage off your bill each month.
Never heard of it? I know, for some reason T-mobile doesn't really publicize it.
So how do you take advantage of it ?
The account holder has to be the member of the group or organization.
Call tmobile, and get to a representative. Explain to them you would like to ask about corporate discounts. Mention the school you go to, the place you work for, etc... If they check their list and you don't qualify, then thank them for their time and ask if student advantage is listed. They'll say yes, and you thank them for their time and hang up. There is a plan B.
Plan B.
If you are a student, you can join http://www.studentadvantage.com
It's a card that you pay a yearly fee that gives you discounts at different retailers, for example target, greyhound, sports authority, flowers.com... and T-Mobile (BINGO!).
Once you order the card, then call back tombile and tell them that you are a member of student advantage, and want the corporate discount. give them your account number and you are set. You will receive a 12% discount every month.
(The student advantage card costs $20 a year, but it turned out to be worth it for me, since I save about 10 dollars a month w/ tmobile.)
Once you set it up, kick back and enjoy your savings. It takes about a month for it to take effect, they'll tell you all of that stuff. Also it does not extend affect your contract, it only changes bill date to middle of month.
ENJOY!
